Tea is not only refreshing as an iced beverage; but is also a great companion to summer cocktails. You can add a touch of sophistication to any classic or start creating your own libations. Tea works great either directly infused in alcohol (typically gin or vodka) or infused separately and used as an ingredient.
Here are my favorites of the moment, preferably enjoyed on the porch during a warm summer night with the loud and rhythmic chorus of the cicadas in the background. Cheers!
Southern Night:
1.5 oz Bourbon
0.5 oz Cane Syrup
2 oz French Earl Grey tea, cooled, unsweetened
Dash of lemon juice.
Shake all ingredients and serve over ice.
Orange Blossom Apéro
1.5 oz Gin infused with Oolong tea
{stir 1 cup of your favorite London Dry Gin with 8g or 2 ½ tsp Orange Blossom Oolong tea in a container, let infuse for 2 hours and strain promptly}
0.75 oz Apérol
1 oz Orange Blossom Oolong tea, cooled, unsweetened
Shake with ice and pour in a glass (no ice).
Green Tea Mojito
2 oz White Rum (Bacardi)
2 tsp sugar
3 lime wedges
12 fresh mint leaves
2 oz Moroccan Mint Green Tea, cooled, unsweetened
Delicately muddle the mint leaves in a tall glass with sugar. Squeeze the lime wedges in the glass, add the rum and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add crushed ice and green tea.
